Michael Helle, NRP/CCP/FP-C, MHA, MBA
Michael Helle is the Vice President (Interim) for Population Health at UCSF Health. In his leadership role, Michael is responsible for shaping and executing strategic initiatives aimed at improving health outcomes across diverse patient populations. He leads efforts to advance UCSF Health’s population health strategies, including optimizing care delivery models, enhancing care coordination, improving patient engagement, and driving value-based care initiatives. His work encompasses oversight of multi-disciplinary health system programs and clinical operations, ensuring alignment with UCSF Health’s mission to deliver equitable, high-quality care.
Michael provides executive oversight for the UCSF Health Accountable Care Organization (ACO), which serves over 110,000 lives across multiple commercial payers, Medicaid alternative payment models, Medicare Advantage Plans, and other value-based care programs. His leadership also focuses on addressing health disparities and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion across population health efforts.
With over 30 years of healthcare experience, Michael brings a wealth of clinical expertise as a National Registered/Critical Care/Flight Paramedic since 1994. Over the past 25 years, he has held numerous leadership roles, including Director positions in Emergency/Trauma Centers, Outpatient Services, Case Management, Oncology and Infusion Services, and Cardiovascular/Interventional Radiology. Michael’s ability to bridge clinical expertise with operational leadership has been instrumental in driving impactful healthcare initiatives.
In addition to his professional roles, Michael is deeply committed to mentorship and advocacy within the LGBTQIA+ community, particularly supporting men with HIV and promoting HIV prevention efforts.
Michael holds a Bachelor of Biology from Minot State University and dual master’s degrees in healthcare administration (MHA) and Business Administration (MBA) from AIU. He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and active with the American Academy of Home Care Medicine. Michael is active faculty with the Home Center Care Institute and recently has become a member of their House Call Advisor Network.
