Behavioral Health Navigation
Connecting patients to resources

This program helps people get the behavioral health care they need.  Whether you are a child or adult going to UCSF for primary care, we can help you find the right behavioral health services both at UCSF and in the community.

Behavioral health treatment is all about helping you feel better emotionally and mentally so you can enjoy life more. This care might include talking to a therapist, seeing a psychiatrist, getting help with your medications, and other services that are chosen just for you.

How the Program Works

  1. Start with your primary care provider:  The first step is to talk to your primary care provider about how you’re feeling. Your provider will understand what you need and help you get started with our behavioral health services.
  1. Getting the help you need: Here’s what we do for you:
  • We make sure your primary care provider and the UCSF behavioral health team work together smoothly.
  • We help connect you to behavioral health experts in the community.
  • We find the right services in the community and make sure they provide the services you need.
  • We check if your insurance covers the services you need and that these services are available.
  • We teach you about different kinds of therapy and ways to get help.
  • We support you through the process of getting care.
  1. Referrals: Each person’s situation is unique. We look at what you specifically need and what your provider tells us. After your provider refers you to us, we will contact you through MyChart or by phone within 10 business days.
  1. Connecting you to services: When we first talk, we’ll help arrange the mental health services you need at UCSF or give you a list of local mental health providers who take your insurance.
